Pitti Uomo 83 – Alberto Moretti Fall Winter 2013/14

Take one of the older Tuscan shoe brands which manufactures elegant shoes since 1902; let mature the know-how of the best craftsmen for over a century, handing down the techniques of leather processing from generation to generation; then give it to the more whimsical heir of the family. Sprinkle generously with glamor and charm, and then turn the flame of passion for the bella vita, until you reach a perfect golden color. Wear the shoes on the most important red carpets of the world or in the most exclusive parties and always smile when they take you a picture.

This is the recipe for success by Alberto Moretti, who since 2006, together with his brothers Andrea and Amedeo, has transformed the family brand Arfango, in one of the most famous luxury shoe brand of the world thanks to the iconic “velvet shoes“, a velvet version of classic leather slippers and loafers.

On the occasion of the 83rd edition of Pitti Uomo, along with a selected number of “Florentine bloggers” (Camilla, Giorgio and Greta), I had the pleasure to attend the private party of Alberto Moretti and his wife Vanessa Zoppas, in their villa near Piazzale Michelangelo, where the Alberto Moretti Fall Winter 2013/2014 collection was exhibited between candles, fashion books and art works. Among the guests there were some of the most important Italian fashion journalists such as Simone Marchetti and Ildo Damiano, as well as entrepreneurs and fashion designers such as James Ferragamo, Andrea Pompilio and many other friends. There was a very glamourous atmosphere as in the Holly Golightly’s parties in Breakfast at Tiffany’s movie.

The next day at Pitti Uomo fair we visited the stand of the brand and Alberto Moretti explained us the inspiration of the collection “Joie de Chaussures“, a tribute to the bella vita, worthy of the jet-set revelers. A collection designed for sophisticated contemporary dandies who wear moccasins as jewels: not by chance, the uppers have velvet bow ties or are studded with Swarovski crystals composing a Martini cocktail silhouette. For the next Fall Winter there are many varieties of slippers: velvet; animal prints; astrakhan; embroidered with golden floral motifs or covered with fur.
Among the new items, there were brushed calfskin boots with internal fur or with a particular external removable fur lining resembling a sort of glam-luxurious reinterpretation of après-ski boots.
Finally, there were also cowhide boots and loafers treated with lime, which burnt the cow hair creating a particular aged craquelure effect, in stark contrast to the untreated areas.

Talking with Alberto Moretti, came out a lot of good news concerning the future of the brand which is expanding in the United States, Eastern Europe and in the Middle East. Intrigued by this success, I asked if he received special commissions from special private clients, and with a certain satisfaction, he revealed me he has made a limited edition shoe especially for the largest shoe-store in the world, the Level shoe district of Dubai (9000 square meters); and a few months ago Lady Gaga, has commissioned him the shoes for the launch-event of her perfume “Fame” with the heels made as the shape of the perfume bottle.

  1. Di parole da spendere ne ho poche.
    Come ben sai, lo trovo geniale, perché nel panorama attuale lo ritengo uno dei pochi in grado di fare commistioni tra l’alta artigianalità e tradizionalità della scarpa, specie nell’area toscana, e dettagli “unconventional”, spesso spinti ai limiti e che sicuramente si fanno notare.
    Le sue scarpe non sono per i deboli di cuore, specie quelle da donna: una deve avere molto sicurezza in se stessa.
    Venendo però alla collezione in questione, cioè quella da uomo, come sai ho apprezzato i nuovi modelli squadrati, l’uso dell’astrakan lavorato, l’idea geniale di apporre una pelliccia sugli stivali che si può sfilare e i modelli nelle tonalità blu, con nappine e pelle trattata in modo da sembrare scolorita e slavata.
    E fattore importante è anche che è un designer alla mano e genuino, nonostante la fama che lo precede e i successi che sta riscuotendo all’estero, come il caso delle scarpe commissionate da Lady Gaga o l’esperienza Level negli emirati, che tu citi nel post!

    1. Ammazza Greta! Meno male erano poche parole! ahahah Mi ha fatto piacere condividere questi momenti mondani con te, Giorgio e Camilla. Dobbiamo farlo più spesso anche perché Firenze è un territorio ricco di arte e di moda. Altro che Milano… 🙂
      Per i Moretti ormai noi siamo succubi del loro charme! 😉

  3. Penso che tu abbia centrato proprio il punto nella descrizione fatta all’inizio del marchio e della sua evoluzione!!
    Le sue scarpe sono delle creazioni veramente speciali, a me personalmente piacciono, anche se ammetto che alcune sono veramente troppo estrose!
    Lui è una persona davvero disponibile e il party a casa sua è stato molto bello! La scena della festa di Holly Goligthly in Colazione da Tiffany calza a pennello!!

  7. Effettivamente in questa edizione di Pitti Uomo le scarpe sono state l’unico ambito su cui ho “perso tempo”. Di creatori geniali ne ho visti parecchi ma lui è davvero notevole.

    a me queste scarpe piacciono molto, un po’ perche’ sono fan delle sleepers da anni, e adoro quelle di Charles Philip che comprai già una decina di anni fa da Colette a Parigi.. poi perche’ adoro MIka… e poi perché mi piacciono in particolare un po’ di queste versioni.. non quelle di Lady Gaga pero’…sai che i miei commenti non sono da esperta di moda ma solo da consumatore finale..ma quando ho tempo visitare il tuo blog é un po’ come andare a ripetizione^_* un bacio
