Sorry, No translation for this post!
New York, First day of fashion week. On the catwalks seems to breathe a relaxed atmosphere. Few fashion designers among which the new names are interspersed with the old ones who built the American fashion system. The mood seen on the catwalks of the first day play on two main themes:
Floral? For Spring? Groundbreaking! Every time Meryl Streep pronounces this line in the movie The Devil Wears Prada, she makes laugh all the fashionistas who love her sarcastic role of Miranda Priestly. Needless to add that fashion bloggers “tragically” revive this joke once a year in March, when spring trend reports sprouting on the web. A spring or summer without flowers seems to be inconceivable for fashion designers. This post, however, is part of a winter trend report series, so why do I speak about flowers and the spring? Let me explain it. The scene from “The Devil wears…
The dichotomous relationship between Art and Fashion is one of the hot topics which always heats the fashion lovers. In one side there are the intransigent ones who can’t tolerate even the proximity of the two words, on the other hand there are those who want to “elevate” Fashion to the Art status. We can surely consider Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana among the fashion designers who periodically rekindle this sort of debate: their collections are an interesting hybrid between costume, high-fashion, street-style and artistic masterpieces. From season to season they leave the fashion journalists speechless: everybody is charmed by…
Everybody defines Diana Vreeland as “Legendary editor in chief of the American Vogue,” even if they haven’t the slightest idea who they’re talking about. So, I’m asking you, what’s the meaning of the word “legendary,” conventionally used as a crossword clue? The answer is more complicated than expected, but you can solve the riddle by reading her entertaining autobiography D.V. published in 1984. Diana Vreeland photographed by Arnold Newman, 1974
On July 21st in the exclusive location of the Circolo Canottieri of Florence (Florentine rowing club) there has been the Bisbigli Summer 2014 beachwear shows, in conjunction with the closure of the largest Italian fashion fair dedicated to swimwear called Mare d’Amare.
Dear readers, with this short post I’d like to thank all of you. Today The Fashion Commentator Blog celebrates its 3rd anniversary and I want to thank you for these wonderful years spent together. I could write a silly fictional story in which I say that this blog was created as a joke and then magically I found myself sitting at the fashion shows, but I will not, especially because it is not true. I’ve always believed that fashion is a serious business, so from the beginning I’ve tried to deal with it respectfully: respect for those who transmit their…
Tu mi fai girar/ tu mi fai girar/ come fossi una bambola… No ragazzo no/ tu non mi metterai/ tra le dieci bambole/ che non ti piacciono più/ Oh no, oh no… Looking at the photos of the San Andrès spring summer 2014 pre-collection by Andres Caballero which paraded during the last edition of AltaRoma (the Italian haute couture fashion week in Rome), I can’t get along without humming the famous song “La bambola” (the doll) which consecrated the Italian Pop singer Patty Pravo as the queen of the Roman nights in the 60s. San Andrès Milano…
As you know from the previous post about Bulgari and the photos shared on Fb and Twitter, on June 15th and 16th there were Les Journées Particulieres, a special and unique occasion to visit the laboratories, cellars, factories, historic boutiques and showrooms of the LVMH brands. After the exciting tour in the Bulgari factory, I had the pleasure to re-visit the Emilio Pucci archive at Villa Pucci in Granaiolo, a small village on the hills near Empoli (Florence).
