Dopo l’addio alle passerelle di Christophe Decarnin, a causa di un grave crollo psicologico che non gli permise di partecipare alle sfilate parigine Autunno-Inverno 2011/2012, il timone della maison Balmain è passato in altre mani. La notizia è stata data ufficialmente a fine aprile, quando, in seguito ad un periodo di scommesse a colpi di tweets, l’azienda ha nominato come direttore creativo sia per il prêt-à-porter femminile che maschile, il venticinquenne Olivier Rousteing. La scelta è ricaduta quindi su un membro interno del team che ha preso parte alla svolta sexy-rocker del brand, infatti già dal 2009 era il braccio destro di Decarnin per le collezioni donna. Molti i commenti positivi provenienti dalle più autorevoli testate d’oltreoceano che tendono a puntualizzare l’importanza di un passo come questo: oltre a presentare uno sconosciuto, finalmente ci sarà uno stilista di colore anche nella rosa delle più prestigiose maison francesi. E’ di questi giorni, invece, la notizia del lancio di una seconda linea prêt-à-porter prodotta in licenza dal gruppo italiano Ittierre SpA e che avrà il nome del fondatore della maison, Pierre Balmain. Sarà una sorta di fucina creativa dedicata ad una clientela più giovane e che esordirà con la collezione Primavera Estate 2012, ma non sarà supervisionata dal nuovo eletto Olivier Rousteing.
After the Christophe Decarnin’s departure (due to a serious psychological breakdown that prevented him to attend the last Paris fashion show), the helm of the Balmain fashion house has passed into other hands. The news was given officially in late April, after a period of betting-tweets on the web. The company named as creative director for both the ready-to-wear collections, the twenty-five years old Olivier Rousteing. The choice went on an internal member of the team, who took part to the sexy-rocker turn of the brand. In fact, Rousteing was the assistant of Decarnin for womenswear collections since 2009. Many positive comments came from the most authoritative overseas magazines, which tended to point out the importance of a step like this. In addition to presenting an unknown designer, finally there will be a black fashion designer even in one of the most prestigious French fashion houses. In these days, the Balmain maison announced the launch of a second line of ready-to-wear, produced under license by the Italian group Ittierre SpA. The project will have the name of the maison’s founder, Pierre Balmain, and it will be a sort of creative lab dedicated to younger customers. The line will be presented in Semptember with the Spring/Summer 2012 collection, but it will not be overseen by the newly elected Olivier Rousteing.

Ciao ragazzi! Grazie a tutti dei commenti, speriamo davvero che Balmain rimanga sulla cresta dell’onda…anche se credo sia molto facile con aficionados come Emanuelle Alt e Anna Dello Russo, che daranno sicuramente delle dritte al “nuovo” arrivato!
I’m a big fan of the rocker/biker style especially when its done in a sophisticated way…although i am usually not so crazy about licensees deals where the creative director of the brand is not involved or oversee the project (i understand the financial aspects of these deals)…but let’s wait and see.

It’s always a good to see some shake up in some of these fashion houses, perhaps a fresh perspective is all it takes to take it to the top!
