Longchamp ha collaborato con Jeremy Scott per creare una nuova borsa in edizione limitata: una sorta di medicina dedicata ai soggetti affetti da disturbo compulsivo ossessivo da accessori, in vendita da Colette a Parigi dal 1 Giugno, e nei negozi Longchamp da Luglio. Questa versione della famosa “Pliage Bag” ha un’ insolita stampa tempestata di pillole come in un espositore da farmacia ed è accompagnata da un foglio di prescrizioni mediche che dice: -Evitare di combinare la borsa con indumenti colorati in modo da non superare la dose raccomandata. Il color-block a questo punto diventa più che lecito!

Penso che l’ ironia con cui Jeremy Scott vede e reinterpreta il mondo nelle sue collezioni sia abbastanza simile all’umorismo e alle opere di Damien Hirst. Per coloro che non lo conoscono, Damien Hirst è il più influente artista britannico contemporaneo e la borsa di Jeremy Scott per Longchamp mi ricorda alcuni suoi lavori della serie Pharmacy.
Tutto iniziò nel 1992, quando Hirst realizzò Pharmacy, un’ installazione presso la Galleria Cohen a New York, poi trasferita alla Tate Gallery di Londra (1996). L’installazione rappresenta una farmacia con teche vetrate contenenti filari di farmaci confezionati ed estese lungo tutte le pareti. Quattro bottiglie di vetro contenenti liquidi colorati sono disposte in fila su un banco e

I think that Jeremy Scott’s ironic way to conceive the world is quite similar to Damien Hirst’s humor and works. For all those who don’t know him, Damien Hirst is the most influential British contemporary living artist and the Scott-Longchamp Pills bag reminds me his works from the Pharmacy series. Everything began in 1992 when Hirst made Pharmacy, a room-sized installation at the Cohen Gallery in New York, then moved to the Tate Gallery in London (1996). The installation represents a pharmacy with cabinets expanded to cover the walls with rows of packaged drugs behind glass. Four glass apothecary bottles filled with coloured liquids stand in a row on a counter and represent the four elements: earth, air, fire, water. Their traditional form is a reminder of more ancient practices of treating and healing the body. The counter fronts three desks, covered with an array of office equipment and stationery, and three chairs. Four bowls containing honeycomb sit on four footstools arranged around an electric insect-o-cutor, which hangs from the ceiling. In 1997, Hirst opened a restaurant called Pharmacy in Notting Hill, characterized by furniture and windows that recreated a real pharmacy. After the closure (2003) he decided to sell the furniture as a piece of art in a Sotheby’s auction, and he unexpectedly earned over £11 million.
Infine un’ altra celebre opera di Hirst sullo stesso tema è “Lullaby Spring”: un mobile in acciaio specchiante su cui sono disposte 6.136 pillole di alluminio smaltate a mano, che è stato venduto da Sotheby’s per ben 19 milioni di $, il prezzo più alto mai pagato in un’asta per l’opera di un artista vivente (2007).

Credo, però, che gli oggetti di Hirst più carini, ma soprattutto più accessibili, siano i gadget e i gioielli che si possono trovare nella sua pagina commerciale su www.othercriteria.com. Divertenti il bracciale d’argento con le sagome di 23 tipi diversi di pillole e i gemelli su cui il logo della casa farmaceutica Bayer diventa un logo Hirst. Per gli addicted da design e arredamento c’è una carta da parati con un abaco di pillole originariamente prodotta per il ristorante Pharmacy e rieditata nel 2004 in edizione limitata di 1000 pezzi. Ogni sezione dell’abaco ha un titolo e il riferimento a un passo biblico ed è disponibile con lo sfondo oro o argento. Infine per i collezionisti di t-shirt d’arte ci sono le immancabili riproduzioni di alcune delle sue opere più recenti come la serie Love con le farfalle.
