Fino a Gennaio è in corso al Museum of Arts and Design di New York “Picasso To Koons: The Artist As Jeweler ” la mostra che esplora la produzione di gioielli dei maestri dell’arte contemporanea attraverso i piccoli capolavori collezionati dalla stessa curatrice, Diane Venet.
Until January is ongoing at the Museum of Arts and Design of New York “Picasso to Koons: The Artist As Jeweler”, an exhibition that explores the production of jewels by the masters of contemporary art through small masterpieces collected by the curator Diane Venet.

In mostra sono esibiti ben 200 pezzi d’arte, ma la sua collezione privata ne vanta più di 800. La grande passione per i gioielli d’arte iniziò 25 anni fa quando l’artista e futuro marito Bernar Venet le avvolse al dito una fascia d’argento modellata a mano, quello era il suo anello di fidanzamento. Da allora ad ogni festa o anniversario Bernar le regalò un gioiello/opera di uno dei suoi grandi colleghi, primi tra tutti Arman e Cesar. L’amore per questo tipo di gioielli unici, divenne irrefrenabile, soprattutto per il loro significato, non era infatti un valore materico legato alla preziosità dei materiali usati, quanto al sentimento personale che passava attraverso quegli oggetti, dall’amicizia del marito con il collega/artista, fino all’amore per la moglie.
On display there are 200 jewels, but hers private collection is made up with more than 800 pieces. Her passion for the art-jewelry began 25 years ago when the artist and future husband Bernar Venet wrapped his finger with a handcrafted silver band as an engagement ring. Since then, for every anniversary occasion, Bernar gave her a jewel made by one of his great colleagues, like Arman and César. The love for this unique type of jewelry became bigger and bigger, especially for its meaning: it was not for the value due to the preciousness of the materials used, but for the personal feelings that ran through those objects like the friendship of Bernar with his colleagues and the love for his wife.

Per l’occasione, alla raccolta Venet si aggiungono opere di altre collezioni, firmati da altrettanti maestri che hanno segnato il panorama artistico del XX secolo. Si spazia dalla spilla con labbra di rubino e sorriso di perle di Salvador Dalì, alle collane sinusoidali di Calder, l’anello di Lucio Fontana con i suoi fori che ricordano i tagli concettuali degli anni 60 o la maschera dorata e traforata di Man Ray.
For the occasion, in addition to the Venet pieces, there are works from other collections signed by the most important artist of the twentieth century. We can see the ruby lips and pearled smile pin by Salvador Dali, the sinusoidal necklaces by Calder, the ring by Lucio Fontana with the holes that remind his conceptual works of the 60’s or the golden mask by Man Ray.

Tra i pezzi più divertenti vi sono l’anello d’oro di Yoko Ono con il disco di Imagine o la scultura LoVE di Robert Indiana, piuttosto che il copricapo con le farfalle di Claude Lalanne.
Among the most amusing pieces there are the gold ring with the Imagine LP by Yoko Ono, the small LoVE sculpture by Robert Indiana and the headpiece with butterflies by Claude Lalanne.

Tra le opere più recenti oltre al ciondolo in platino a forma di coniglio di Jeff Koons per Stella McCartney, abbiamo il Pills bracelet di Damien Hirst e il fantastico survival necklace di Donald Sultan costituito da sigarette e fiammiferi. La mostra rimarrà aperta fino all’ 8 gennaio 2012 e per chi fosse a New York non sarebbe male darvi un’occhiata, anche per farsi un’idea del regalo da fare alle proprie partner o da regalarsi qualora il compagno non fosse così sveglio da recepire il messaggio di una visita prenatalizia al MAD!
Among the most recent there are the platinum rabbit pendant by Jeff Koons for Stella McCartney, the Pills bracelet by Damien Hirst and the amazing Survival necklace by Donald Sultan made of cigarettes and matches. The exhibition will be opened until January 8, 2012. For those who are in New York wouldn’t be so bad to take a look, just to get an idea for a special gift for your partner, or even for yourself in case your partner could’t understand the subliminal message of a-near-Christmas visit to the MAD!
