Nel tardo pomeriggio di lunedì 9 Aprile Il designer belga Raf Simons è stato nominato direttore artistico di Christian Dior, per sostituire John Galliano dopo la drammatica dipartita nel marzo 2011.
Raf Simons sarà responsabile per la haute couture, il prêt-à-porter femminile e gli accessori a partire dalle sfilate haute couture di Luglio, mantenendo anche la sua linea maschile Raf Simons, mentre per Dior Homme rimarrà a capo Kris Van Assche.
In the late afternoon of Monday, April 9th, the Belgian designer Raf Simons has been nominated as artistic director of Christian Dior, after the dramatic departure of John Galliano in March 2011.
Raf Simons will be responsible for the haute couture, the women ready to wear and the accessory line from the haute couture show in July. He will continue to design his own menswear eponymous label, while Kris Van Assche will remain at the head of Dior Homme.
“Mi sento fantasticamente bene” ha detto Simons raggiunto al telefono del suo studio di Anversa. “E’ una grande sfida e un sogno andare da Dior, sinonimo di eleganza, femminilità e lusso assoluto.”
Raf Simons è stato scelto da Bernard Arnault, presidente e amministratore delegato di LVMH Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy per modernizzare Dior, portando il suo stile iconico nel 21° secolo e sostituendo il fascino dell’immaginario da boudoir di John Galliano.
“I feel fantastic,” Mr. Simons said by telephone from his studio in Antwerp. “It is one of the ultimate challenges, and a dream to go to a place like Dior, which stands for absolute elegance, incredible femininity and utter luxury.”.
Raf Simons has been chosen by Bernard Arnault, chairman and chief executive officer of LVMH Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy to modernize Dior, bringing its iconic style in the 21 st century and replacing the boudoir’s imaginary by John Galliano.
Come riportato dal NYTimes, si vocifera che la figlia del magnate, Delphine Arnault, abbia avuto una grande influenza nella scelta. Ms. Delphine Arnault è infatti una modernista convinta con un debole per le collezioni Céline (altro brand del gruppo LVMH) ed è colei che ha proposto di aggiornare le iconiche borse Dior con una collaborazione con l’artista grafico berlinese Anselm Reyle.
Non resta che augurare buon lavoro a Raf Simons, ma soprattutto a Dior di trovare una nuova identità pur mantenendo fede alla grande eredità del marchio.
As reported by the NYTimes, rumor says that the tycoon’s daughter, Delphine Arnault, has been influential in the choice of Mr.Simons.
Ms. Delphine Arnault is a convinced modernist with a penchant for Céline collections (another brand of the LVMH group) and she is the one who proposed to upgrade the iconic Dior bags thanks to a collaboration with the Berlin graphic artist Anselm Reyle.
Good luck to Raf Simons, but especially for Dior to find a new identity, but remaining faithful to the great heritage of the brand.

Sono molto curioso di vedere come il nuovo direttore artistico se la caverà. Mi chiedo anche che cosa stia facendo attualmente Galliano… uno come lui che viveva molto sopra le righe non so come possa riuscire a sopportare la condizione di disoccupato. Le sue esternazioni furono esecrabili, ma l’ostracismo che ha incontrato dopo è stato molto severo…
