Vincent Billeci, emerging fashion designer from the South of Italy, has just released his new collection inspired to the imaginary journey across Sicily started with the Spring/Summer2013. In the Vincent Fall Winter 2013/14 collection he shows “his” personal Sicily, made of popular traditions carved in the childhood memories, such as ‘u fistinu ‘ra Santuzza (Santa Rosalia feast) that enlive the streets of Palermo with the parade float and the decorative lights.
Last week Florence hosted the Fashion Industry and the Glam Community International Conference, the event that drew the most important journalists, bloggers and fashion curators in the first capital of Italian fashion, for the official launch of Europeana Fashion, a huge fashion archive with 700,000 digital files coming from 19 museums and archives including the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Antwerp ModeMuseum. Jewels, since their appearance among the ancient civilizations, were considered as a status symbol of the persons who wore them, but nowadays thanks to the great diffusion of bijoux made with poor and non-precious materials, they paradoxically seem to have an added value. They still are status symbols, but can also be considered as the full expression of our personality. Jewels talk about us, they reveal our taste, our culture, our life philosophy, so I was really impressed when I met Clelia Stincheddu and Giulietta Piccioli with their Jewelry Green project at the last edition of Pitti W in January.…
Here we are at the end of the Milan Design Week, a grueling, but fun event which enlivens every corner of Milan taking away for a short time, the typical gray (and almost boring) patina of the city. For the weekend I propose to you a strange mix of events which investigate the contrasts between ethics/aesthetics, old/new, masters/new talents, enhancing their differences and trying to make a better life, just respecting the industrial design’s aim.
