Rough-textured knitwear, worsted wool and shiny leather declined into sculptural shapes that can hardly go unnoticed; this is the way Pitti Immagine Uomo 89 guest designer Juun.J, revisited the menswear tailoring classics in his fall winter 2016 collection, bringing in the hometown of Italian fashion, Florence, something ‘totally new’ ( as reported in the press release) or at least unusual (as I would say).
How was Pitti? This is the only question everybody asks to the thousands of visitors of the 89th edition of Pitti Uomo, but never like this year has been difficult to formulate a response.
For every fashion show worthy of its name, fashion influencers have one or more rituals to honor: pretend to (not) pose in front of street-style photographers before entering the venue of the show; raise smartphones to film the finale and post it on Instagram just to prove they are attending the event; and for the lucky ones, greet the designer in the backstage with a photo (because asking a question about the show is a too hard task). In Florence, during Pitti Uomo, this ritual turns into endless walks in front of the Fortezza da Basso or hours spent while posing…
Never like before Pitti Uomo turned out to be a real hotbed of emerging talents thanks to the scouting initiatives as Pitti Italics, The Latest Fashion Buzz and the famous contest in Who is on Next?UOMO in collaboration with L’Uomo Vogue. Then, in addition to these projects, there are the emerging designers who showcase their lines inside the Fortezza, thanks to which Pitti Uomo is confirmed to be THE ONLY event to record the global trends in men’s fashion. The new brands involved in Pitti Uomo are so many that there is plenty of choice, but certainly most of the…
Thanks to the autumn-winter collection 2015 presented as a special event of Pitti Uomo 87, Andrea Incontri walks into the future don’t forgetting his first steps in the world of accessories.
The series of special events for the 87th edition of Pitti Uomo began with “Arrivo”, a fashion performance which presented the collection born from the collaboration of two Italian talents whose style is inspired by the past, Matteo Gioli of SuperDuper Hats and Stefano Ughetti of the brand Camo.
Pitti Uomo doesn’t mean only fashion shows and events held in the most beautiful palaces of Florence; the real show is inside the Fortezza da Basso. Obviously, I am not referring to the fashion people desperately waiting for a famous street-style-photographer, but to the fashion collections presented in the fair. Each pavilion has a target audience and each stand tells a unique story, or more than one, as in the case of Lardini brand, with its three lines dedicated to three different kind of men who love contemporary elegance.
The presentation of the pre-fall 2014 capsule collection by Barbara Casasola was one of the most awaited date of the 13rd edition of Pitti W in Florence. It took place in the decadent rooms of Palazzo Portinari Salviati, where the contrast between the contemporary scenic design and the Renaissance frescoes perfectly framed the male-female dichotomy of the “Menswear for Women” capsule collection of the Brazilian designer.
The return of Alessandro Dell’Acqua to the menswear with his first N°21 fall winter 2014 men collection was one of the most awaited events of the 85th edition of Pitti Uomo. The Neapolitan fashion designer as a phoenix has flown once again over the “menswear Olympus” drawing the attentions of the most representative fashion journalists who came to watch his new debut in the reading room of the Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale in Florence. N°21 – Pitti Uomo 85
One of the problems of emerging fashion designers who have gained a certain visibility since the beginning of their careers, is to keep the interest of buyers and press season by season. But how? If we consider Italian case studies such as Andrea Pompilio and MSGM, seems that you can remain on top, only if you are able to renew your whole concept, but without betraying that particular style which made your name famous. It’s really hard, but it’s what happened to Stella Jean with her second menswear collection presented during the 85th edition of Pitti Uomo. Stella Jean…
